DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. They don't sound at all like the Spanish I hear spoken. Even grammar and vocabulary I knew well before the course I feel less comfortable with now. You will hear a man with a thick German or possibly Eastern European accent teaching two people with other accents who are novices with Spanish how to speak Spanish. My wife, a PhD in Psychology tells me hearing incorrect information while learning has been found to hinder learning. They make mistakes - lots of them. You will not hear a single native Spanish speaker on this CD. There is a lot of grammar introduced rather quickly, which I thought would be good, but I do not feel I have learned the information due to how badly the students are speaking it and responding to it.
He corrects them, but you will hear wrong information many times over. I have had quite a few classes in Spanish and visit Mexico many times per year. I think Michel's method is pretty good actually, if I were the only one receiving it or interacting with it. I repeat, DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
If you really are an advanced speaker of Spanish, skip this product entirely. The teacher says something, then the student repeats it (it usually sounds nothing like Spanish when they do), and they continue along like that.
I was extremely dissappointed with this product. First of all, the word "Advanced" in the title is a misnomer.
I am an intermediate advanced Spanish student, and I was looking for a product to help me to speak more fluently. Secondly, the way in which the lessons are taught is very disorganized and, quite frankly, annoying.
The lessons on this CD are very, very basic. The instructions are even given in English, which is an indication of the level to which he is trying to speak.
The fact that the teacher is not a native speaker also is not helpful. If you are a basic speaker, this might help you if you can possibly stand to listen to the whole thing.
It does a good job with the verb tenses, but only minimal time is spent on adjectives and nouns. There is no question that Michel Thomas is the most effective all-audio language learning method. For example, even by the end one does not learn how to use possessive adjectives (my, your, his, etc). However, the course is certainly a good way to absorb basic structure. Nothing is better for people who don't have the time or discipline for a real course. However, despite the efforts that this course makes at being comprehensive, it cannot include everything. It should not be difficult to pick up the rest from a grammar book or immersion in the language. I'm not sure, however, why Michel did not put out a much longer course in which he introduced more extensive vocabulary and gave more practice sentences, not to mention the grammar of nouns and adjectives.
Also, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned how charming the students' voices are; they're a pleasure to listen to. This summer I'm spending a week in Mexico and thought I'd try the advanced.
Thomas' program. I have to agree with the folks who applaud Mr.
The CDs enhanced my trip tremendously. Although I would love to have the time to study Spanish and French with workbooks and exercises, I simply don't, and these CDs are the way to go for busy people wanting to improve their language skills.I had 4 years of high school Spanish 25 years ago.
Two years ago, I bought the booster set prior to a trip to South America, and I was surprised by how much I remembered. I think the 2 students are a terrific addition and I appreciate the grammatical explanations in English; the catchy labels for certain concepts make them easier to remember.
I picture either an Antonio Banderas look-alike or James Bond learning Spanish for the gentleman, and a lovely cultured Englishwoman for the lady.If you need to brush up on Spanish and don't have time to study it, these CDs will be an excellent asset in the car or elsewhere.
His way is quick and efficient and if anyone wants to learn the basics quickly and easily this is the way. Having studied languages in the past with difficulty, my sister told me about a different way of learning languages she had heard about on the radio. From the start I loved the way he teaches without having to memorize or write anything down. Teaching his method in school would encourage a lot more children to enjoy learning languages as there is very little effort required but it helps you to become fluent very quickly. It would be very useful if you are going on a business trip or vacation to listen to just before you go or on your way there, to really enhance the experience of the country you are visiting.
